Wanganui High Schools Mission Statement and Vision
To meet the needs of all students, no matter their ability in Sport and Recreation. To encourage participation and learning of skills, so students can explore, perform and excel in their chosen sport at a local, regional, national and international level.
Students at Wanganui High School have the opportunity to participate and compete in a wide range of sports and activites. Below you will find details of almost all the sports on offer each year. We also offer the Duke of Edinburgh Awards. The school also has a Hut on Mt Ruapehu and this is often used for training camps for sports teams and the Outdoor Education classes.
We have strong links with a lot of sporting clubs in the region. A few are:
Athletics Wanganui, Braves Softball Club, Aramoho Rowing Club, Wanganui Tennis Club, Peat Park Bowling Club, Wanganui Swimming Club, Cycling Wanganui, Wanganui Boy's and Girls Gym Club, Wanganui Harrier Club, Athletic Football Club and the Wanganui Multisport Club.
We are currently working with Sport Wanganui in relation to the new SPARC lead Kiwisport programme which aims to foster an environment where more school aged youths will be given more opportunities to develop better skills and accessibility to more events.
Additional information about sport in the school is linked via the schools 'Ultranet' site in the top right hand corner of this page. Please click on this and take a look at the other pages avaliable.

The school owns and operates a hut on Mt Ruapehu. Tramping trips occur throughout the year and vary from easy to more difficult. Holiday trips and the 'end of year tramp' are open only to those who have tramped during term time.
All trips are advertised in the school Daily Notices about a week before they go. Students who wish to go on a trip need to collect the permission slips and details from the teacher running the trip. Money and permission slips must then be returned to the Student Centre by the due date.
The club has packs, boots and other equipment available for hire by students going to club trips.
Any further enquiries can be made to Mrs O'Connor.
