General

The Board is aware that there is likely to be a high demand for places in the school. The Board is also aware that it has a responsibility to parents to support them in their wish to enrol students at the school of their choice, i.e. Wanganui High School.

The Ministry of Education has advised the Board that it expects the school to have an enrolment scheme.

Enrolment Scheme

The school’s enrolment scheme has been established in association with the Ministry of Education in order to limit the size of the school’s roll. There are several criteria associated with this scheme:

1. Written applications, including a copy of the student’s most recent report, must be received by the school no later than 3.30pm on the last day of Term Two for enrolments for the next year.
2. Applicants living within the school’s home zone, will be considered first.
3. Applicants living out of the zone and who have a brother or sister currently attending (or who recently attended) Wanganui High School, will be considered second.
4. Applicants living out of zone and who have a parent employed by the school will be considered third.
5. Applications living out of zone and with no siblings associated with the school will be considered fourth.
6. If the school cannot accommodate all applications at any given year level, a ballot may be held for that year level. Students who miss out may be offered a place on the school’s waiting list.

Zone Boundary Line

Our zoning map is available at http://www.schoolzones.co.nz and the boundary line follows the river, railway line, urban boundary and streets as indicated.

Pre-Enrolment Procedure

Parents/caregivers should complete the pre-enrolment application form (available from the school office or see pdf attached). Please provide as much information as possible, and parents need to attach:

(a) a copy of their child’s most recent school report;
(b) the completed subject selection sheet;
(c) the Iwi declaration sheet (if relevant); and
(d) either a copy of the child’s birth certificate (if born in NZ), or a copy of their passport and relevant visa/permit (if born outside NZ).

These documents should then be submitted to the school no later than 3.30pm on the last day of Term Two for enrolments for the next year. If submitted after this deadline a covering letter will need to be provided.

Notification

All applicants will be notified by mail no later than Monday 9th August, 2010, as to whether or not they have been accepted.

Interview

Parents/caregivers are free to make an appointment if they wish to discuss any aspect of the school’s enrolment procedure. Please telephone 06 349 0178.

Wanganui High School Zone

The Board is aware that there is likely to be a high demand for places in the school. The Board is also aware that it has a responsibility to parents to support them in their wish to enrol students at the school of their choice, i.e. Wanganui High School.

The Ministry of Education has advised the Board that it expects the school to have an enrolment scheme. Therefore the Board has decided upon the zone and associated enrolment procedures outlined on forms included with the Prospectus.
